RTO Charges Calculator
The "registration" line is the most-padded item in Indian car quotes — because it mixes one big percentage (road tax) with small fixed fees nobody looks up. This tool itemizes exactly what your state charges, rupee by rupee, and checks the dealer's figure against it. Nothing stored, no sign-up.
Enter the ex-showroom price and the full itemization appears here.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a car's registration charge actually include?
Two kinds of items: the state's one-time road tax (a percentage of ex-showroom price — the only big number) and a handful of fixed fees: ₹600 registration fee under central rules, RC smart card (₹200–400), high-security number plates (₹600–1,100), FASTag (~₹600), and a ₹1,500 hypothecation endorsement if the car is financed. Everything else in a dealer's 'registration' line is margin.
Why is the dealer's registration figure higher than the RTO's?
Dealers commonly add a 'registration handling' or 'logistics' markup inside the registration line, because buyers verify the car's price but almost never verify the tax math. Differences of ₹10,000–35,000 above the legitimate total are routinely reported. Ask for the RTO computation item by item — that request alone often shrinks the line.
What is a hypothecation charge?
When a car is financed, the lender is noted on the registration certificate — that endorsement costs ₹1,500 under central rules. It's legitimate on a financed car, and it's also why you must remember to get the hypothecation removed (another small fee) after the loan is closed, or the car remains encumbered on paper.
Can I register the car myself instead of through the dealer?
For a new car, practically no — dealers hold the trade certificate and the car reaches the RTO through them. But that doesn't make their charges unquestionable: the tax and fees are fixed by notification, so you can demand the computation and refuse padding even though they do the paperwork.
